🛠️The work itself

• What did I actually do today — and did I enjoy it?
• Was there a moment when I thought, “I could do this every day”?
• What does a normal working day look like for an apprentice?
• Is the work more with people, with things, with numbers or with ideas?
• Is it physical, at a desk, outdoors, noisy, quiet — and is that okay for me?
• Which tasks would I do in the first year?
• What do apprentices find hardest in this job?

🙂The people & atmosphere

• Were people friendly and patient with me?
• Who would train me — and did I get on with them?
• How do the staff talk to each other and to the apprentices?
• Would I feel comfortable asking questions or saying when I don't understand?
• How many other apprentices are there here?
• What do the current apprentices like least about working here?

💡 That last question is the most useful one. Apprentices will usually say “it's good” if you ask whether they like it. “What's the most annoying part?” tells you much more.

🏢Look around

• Do I like the workplace — the workshop, office, shop, lab or site?
• Does it feel safe and well organised?
• Where do people take breaks and have lunch?
• What clothes or equipment would I need?

🚆Everyday life

• How long would my journey be?
• What are the working hours — and would I have early starts, late finishes or weekends?
• Which days would I be at vocational school?
• Would I still have time for friends, hobbies and sport?
• How much would I earn as an apprentice each year?

🔭Where could it take me?

• What do apprentices usually do after they finish here?
• Could I stay at the company after the apprenticeship?
• Is a vocational Matura (BMS) possible alongside this apprenticeship?
• What further training or specialisations are possible later?
